Upward Lightning
Tower-initiated — rarely photographedMost lightning travels downward. Upward lightning starts from tall structures or high terrain and travels the other way. It accounts for roughly one percent of all strikes. It lasts longer and produces a dim glow rather than a sharp flash. Almost no one on the ground sees it.
