The Canol Pipeline

A pipeline and road were built through 2,000 kilometres of Canadian wilderness during the Second World War to supply a refinery in Whitehorse. The project cost more than the oil it ever moved was worth. It was abandoned less than a year after completion. Sections of the road and pipe are still visible in the bush.
